Injured Robin

Today I went outside to feed the birds some bread and my cat, Buttons, comes with me while I'm sitting on the bench on my stoop I see a robin hopping around. It didn't look injured at all from a distance but then it kept hopping closer and closer and I was surprised that it didn't fly away. Then out of no where my cat starts chasing it and it still doesn't fly away! Before Buttons can get to the robin I yell at him to stop and luckily he does before he began killing it. The robin falls on its side somehow and I run in my house get a box and a sheet of paper and pick it up with the sheet of paper and put it in the box. I then go back inside to bring gloves for myself. The robin was chirping really loudly until I began gently petting its head with my now gloved hand. It was obvious that something was wrong with the bird. So I get a cage I have for my cats, clean it out, put newspaper down, put a little bowl of water and some bread and birds seed and put the robin in there. I'm going to keep the robin in the cage until it's able to fly again. I'm doing this so that it doesn't get hit by a car or attacked by another animal. I hope it gets better soon.
